Ann Toulmin Rothe
Ann Toulmin Rothe 1946 - 1997 Artist, Teacher, Illustrator What Ann feels about her subject is more important to her than what she sees of its surface aspects, just as what she knows about creating the illusion of form and space and a sense of light on the flat surface of a canvas is more important than what she knows about accurately reproducing natural appearances in a conventiona manner. The result is that her work expresses a life and language of its own, in which shapes and forms and statements of color refer to nature, paralleling and interpreting it rather than imitating it.
