This painting was inspired by the following statement:

"The last thing that any attempt to reconstruct the gospel needs

is for the charge to be led by a white man."  Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove

We have had our chance.  We gave the world slaveholder Christianity.

We gave it consumerism,  and the logical end of consumerism is addiction,

complete with luxury rehab.  These young people are overprivileged and underparented.

They are addicted to drugs because their parents are addicted to things.

They have been neglected, used, and lied to.

They know the scent of hypocrisy and they run from it.

And yet here they are, fully attentive to my friend.

Whatever he is telling them, it smacks of truth.

Maybe it's just his story, full on and without edits or analysis.

So you have their attention my friend.  You have a tentative respect.

The question is, what will you do with it?  Will you be different?
